Kalkutta, named in homage to her infancy spent in an Indian orphanage, she was surrendered at 2 days old, is a self-made Artist, Songwriter/Producer, and DJ. With her DJ career fueled by a regular gig on Good Morning America, she signed Sony ATV after penning breakthrough hit "New Americana" for pop phenomenon Halsey, and landed her first RIAA certified platinum record.
Spinning opening sets for renowned song selectors like Questlove, Q-Tip, Solange Knowles, and A-Trak, Kal learned from the best. She's been lucky enough to DJ for guests like Prince, Paul McCartney, Rihanna, and The Weekend at Grammy soirées and VMA after parties - gigs that also landed her in Page Six and The Daily News amongst many other publications.
A love of fashion and culture parallels Kalkutta's love for music, drawing MAC Cosmetics, Ferrari, and SHAPE Magazine as well as designers Nanette Lepore and Betsey Johnson to book her for their events and runways. A passion for travel lead to touring with pop acts, whom she accompanied on episodes of SNL, Ellen, and The Tonight Show.
As she prepares to release her own EP in 2017, the playlists Kal curates for brands like Complex and Teen Vogue are increasingly peppered with her own material - outside writing for artists like Halsey and Sevyn Streeter, she's done official remixes for dance artists Krewella and Clean Bandit.
A feminist with an active role in the fight for LGBT and racial equality, Kalkutta also blogs for The Huffington Post, and spins atop Delta Airline's Pride Parade float every year.
